[Discussion] Router installation

Well, it *should* have been simple, eh?
Have yet to connect to the router (192.168.0.1) to change
its address; my network is 192.168.1.x. Tried through this
machine, no connection; tried through the firewall/router
machine, nada.
Finally read the manual and my firewall/router is still at
the Mozilla 1.7 and D-Link wants 1.7.2; would that be the
difference? Also wants a direct connection to the computer
that last had an internet connection. In attempting to
add a network 192.168.0.x, all I've managed to do is mess
up the hosts file (I assume) so I can't get out on the
gateway machine but this one is fine as long as I don't put
the 192.168.0.1 machine in the hosts file.
IOW, attempting to put a LAN on a 192.168.0.x connection
messes up either the gateway machine or this one.
When the router is connected to the hub the cable light
does some blinking but stays steady when directly connected
so I assume it's at least "seeing" the connection even if
it doesn't respond.
I tried using the TCP/IP configuration program to set up a
2nd lan (see above) but no dice either.
What do I need to do to connect to the router? Call D-Link?
Oh, I somehow misplaced the CD so I can't even boot this
computer to XP and try to work it out (and this one doesn't
have a direct connection either, of course).
