I had actually thought of that!  I use FAXWORKS here, and I had verified the driver LPT49.SYS was in   
CONFIG.SYS so I dismissed it. 
 
When you sent the link, I decided to read the doc in the faxworks directory.  Sure enough, I had failed to   
execute line three... 
 
3) Run the LPT49.CMD command file.  This adds the OS2SYS.INI entries 
for all the ports so that they will appear on the Output page of the 
Settings notebook for printer objects. 
 
BINGO!! 
 
My world is all better now ;-)
