When I installed Snow Leopard all I had to do was reset my screen saver, my printer (hp LJ1022) and some other minor item. The driver was Gutenprint 5.2.3 which had a few problems but which did work. A recent update included the proper driver and I had to remove a workaround in Address Book.

Note that the drivers are supplied by hp, not Apple. I don't who dropped the ball but it has been picked up. The 1020 is not on the list but IIRC it was never listed as being supported although it would run.

I haven't seen any real improvement in Snow Leopard but there is a lot of stuff I don't use.
