I am still confused. what is the source of the above quotation and why
is 'allow' in quotation-marks (or as we call them in my biz,
'scare-quotes')?
on the face of it, this seems compatible with what I said - you _can_
install it but it is ill-advised. if what I was told is right, it is
especially ill-advised for newbies. my information may be out-of-date
though.
my experience with it was not unqualifiedly good. as I mentioned,
sometimes one had to fool around to upgrade or install new stuff and
it was confusing which repositories to use. it installed tons of stuff
which at first I liked since I could 'shop around' clickety-clicking
but I soon longed for a leaner system.
basically, I ended up dropping it and installing Debian Lenny.

Children are natural mimic who act like their parents despite every
effort to teach them good manners.
