well, 'Free-BSD' is not Linux, right? but my real question is did you 
actually _install_ Knoppix? I did that once and got some warnings from 
some (knowledgeable) fellows on some forum that it is not meant to be 
installed, just used as a live-CD.

Original versions of Knoppix WERE to be ONLY run from the COD. Later ones 'allow' installation.
Why mess with a newbie's head? 
They'd learned something about Linux via the Knoppix distro
  SOoo let them run with it from HDD, too.

as I recall, there were some problems upgrading stuff and I also 
didn't want all the software that came along with the install.
