[Discussion] worth doing

The situation that Bob described could have been predicted accurately if 
you look at the two *organizations* which were involved:

IBM: Long established, leading their industry, strong reputation for 
reliability, often follow competitors introductions with a superior 
product. But they did not realize that micros were a whole new product 
area, and some of the old rules didn't apply.

Microsoft: New kid on the block, definitely aware of IBM's reputation, 
knows they must beat IBM to market or be buried.

While I agree with many of the points, now seen in many systems with 
serial beta releases, or the Google permanent beta software, his phrase 
"worth doing poorly" should have been "Worth doing quickly."

Have a new idea? Get to market *fast*!
