[Discussion] [MAC] [Linux]

With all the interest shown in BOTH Mac OS X and Linux, I don't see
why we shouldn't have discussions on both of these systems.

I, personally, have both an iMac running OS X and a sub-laptop
running Xandros Linux (a variant of Debian), and would be interested
in both discussions. Since Mac OS X is based on Unix, these systems
are all first cousins, at least under the hood.

Any Mac users wishing to explore the Unix underpinnings of their
systems might find Dave Taylor's book "Learning Unix for Mac OS X
Tiger", published by O'Reilly, useful. It presupposes no Unix
knowledge. AFAIK, it hasn't been updated for OS X Leopard, but
that's really no problem.

Bob Wonderly "(it's been almost 54 years since I started my
programming career and my BA/MA degrees are in Math)" has me beat by
a couple of years; I got out of graduate school in 1958, a mere 51
years ago, and started working as a programmer on the IBM CPC (Card
Programmed Computer), a vacuum tube and relay machine.

Best regards, Joe
