A number of Linux distributions offer "Live" versions which you can test
in RAM before deciding whether or not to install them. Ubuntu releases
new versions each Apr and Oct. I've been running Ubuntu since 6.04.
It's nice but it has had some problems (usually quickly resolved). I
prefer Mepis 8.0 ( www.mepis.org ) It's a souped-up version of Debian.
Another nice feature of Mepis is that it has a number of utilities for
IBM ThinkPads.
