Yesterday I went online and set up an appointment at the nearest Apple
store. It was a treat to have a knowledgeable sales person devoted to
you. Once I made my choices checkout was easy. They scanned the
barcode on the box and my computer was registered.
When I got home I opened the box, took out the computer, power cord,
keyboard, mouse and documentation. I chose the wireless keyboard an
mouse so all I did was plug in the power cord and the Ethernet cable
and fire everything up. The system found the keyboard, mouse and my
internet connection. I set up the mail client and downloaded my mail.
Everything is familiar but different. There are new/different ways of
doing things but they aren't so different from what I am used to that
I am lost. I had purchased iWork and went to install it. There were
no instructions but I loaded it into the cd drive in the way that
looked right to me. It was right and the programs installed.
Next I went out on the web and downloaded the MAC version of
Moneydance. I am finding my way around slowly but surely.
The mouse feels different and it is not just the single key which
doesn't bother me. I have to push down the front of the mouse to
click it. I am getting used to it. The keyboard is a different
matter so far. It is quite small but the keys are more widely spaced
than I am used to and it is flat. I have used IBM keyboards for years
and touch type. This is going to be a problem for me. There is no
backspace key, just a delete key that works that way.
It is different, not daunting.
