[Discussion] Determining fonts

I know how to use the font palette to set the font used in those 
applications that support it, but I've never been able to find a way to 
determine what the *present* font is.  So, for instance, I have no idea 
how to change the type size and keep the type face the same.  Is there 
a way ?

On a related matter, for COMMAND and CMD windows the window's menu 
contains the item 'Font Size...' to allow you to set the size for the 
windows.  Are these fonts in any way related to the fonts in the font 
palette ?  In other words, would it be possible to use these fonts in 
an application that supports the font palette ?
