The backup archive files are written to a data partition,
and from there written to CDR.  I haven't used tapes since
burned by the QIC crap years ago.

I found that doing it this way I can restore my main or
maintenance partitions in a matter of minutes instead of
reinstalling and reconfiguring.  So technically I'm running
off the same image I created when I first installed eCS v1.2
years ago (2002?).
