Ira,
You could try it. Something in the Dell BIOS is killing the install. You
have to get through the BIOS to do the installation. Have you tried alt
F2. I found the darn thing died at the LVM driver.
You can probably bypass the Checking Disk Integrity if you have done it
once. I am pretty sure that is only analyzing your installation CD.
I tried everything I could with no luck at all. I plugged the drive back
into my old Presario P3 with no problem at all.
I believe some of the changes to eCS are not as clean as should be. I
have 3 eCS partitions 1.2R, RC5 and RC6. If I boot into 1.2 then come
back to RC6a, I get an error stating that OS/2 cannot read my disks so
correct the error. Sometimes I can get to the maintenance setup or do
something like reset to vga. If I F2 I see that it is the LVM that is
hanging. This is the driver that failed on my Dell unit, so I am not
sure if you can get to an external drive successfully. If I recall I
started have partition issues as well, so tread carefully if your
personal data is exposed.
I remember waiting for a long time to install Warp 3 on a 386 with 4 MB
ram at Comdex in the mid 90's. The install was painfully slow but it
completed on just about every box we tried. But it did install and ran
fine. Some of the improvements Serenity have made are great, sh*t like
this install issue belong elsewhere.
