[Discussion] FAT file systems

Dear Stratton
Just reading this message gave me these thoughts for you:
LVM (and such, e.g. FDISK) are for 'partition-able media' which generally means (meant?) NON removable media, i.e. fixed disks.
The 'other way' of treating removable media is as a 'large floppy'.
So, maybe, eCS can't tell anymore which it is?
... but others have succeeded with FAT32 USB 'sticks'.
Yes? If, SO, then that can not be 'it'.
IF the USB 'stick' came UNready for use (NO formatting, let alone attempted partitioning) then, maybe, since LVM is a replacement for FDISK, LVM might 'get to' prepare the stick, itself. (?)
Lastly, when I've used a USB 'stick' (FAT16, 128MB; _maybe_ I used a 1GB _at most_) with 'our OS' (Warp 3C, FP40),
I seem to remember having it plugged-in _AT_ power-on and boot
AND
NOT removing it till AFTER OS shutdown AND Hw power-off
- just like I do with USB 'sticks' and 16-bit DOS.
(How's THAT for a run-on sentence! My apologies to Wm. Safire, Esther S., and anyone else who reacts in (justifiable) repulsion at my wording.)
