Not sure if this helps or not, but I've mounted HPFS partitions
under linux.  If all you're doing is checking/copying data, a
basic no-frills linux install could serve as a "file browser"
for your HPFS drives, copy off what you need, move it somewhere
else and then format/poopcan the drives.
