I had the impression Samba was a bit of a moving target. btw what 
version of RedHat or Samba are you using? mostly curious, I'm no 
Samba-man.

I can't speak to the printer issue but have you tried ssh? Windows has 
several clients - 'winscp' I believe the one I've used is called. it 
seems very well-behaved.

Linux to linux, I use something called 'sshfs' which allows me to 
mount drives remote. don't bother though if your RedHat is ancient.
