Leo,
I am planning to upgrade my computer after the holiday rush is over, and
since few motherboards have a parallel port anymore, I did some research
for this same situation. I could only find mixed reviews of the
USB-Parallel printer cable, so I went for a Netgear PS101 print server
(less than $20 on ebay), plugged it into my router, and installed SLPR.
Once I figured out how to configure SLPR, everything is working great on
eCS 1.2R, Suse Linux 11.0, and Windows XP and 2000. Now, I don't need
to worry about having a parallel port.
