I have been very pleased with DFSee, although I have remained back at 6.15, which meets my needs.

Everyone should be aware that Steve Gibson (www.grc.com) has updated SpinRite to version 6 and has done what he never expected to do--the utility boots with FreeDOS and will work its magic on FAT, FAT32, NTFS, all major Linux filesystems _and_ HPFS. I believe that JFS support is included as part of the Linux support. SpinRite did not hesitate when told to analyze those volumes on my system.

SprinRite deals directly with the hardware, and I've used it since version 3.0. It can often bring a dead drive back to life. Its data-recovery functions seem like black magic. Now that it once more supports OS/2 file systems, I have no hesitation in recommending it as a valuable tool. The fact that it actually makes use of the SMART data to give you an idea of the "real" health of your drive can be invaluable.
