G'day Brian

Both the X Digital Hyper Drive and the Sony Micro Vault have 8 GB units that look like they will fit the bill. I know I could use an actual USB 100 GB hard drive but I don't want to have everything on one drive and I believe they require 2 USB ports (only have 1). Also, one of the flash drives will be used on my company WinXP Dell laptop.

Most of it has been said already. I'd sleep better at night with all
may data on 1 HDD than on any number of flash drives. It's only the
2.5" USB HDDs that use 2 x USB ports, and even then it's optional. The
2nd one is for more power (max 500ma/USB port), and in my experience (I
have one) it still isn't enough. You need to use an external power
source (a wall wart). As for eCS compatibility, I don't know - I don't
have an eCS installation any more. However, the USB drive is just a
standard mass storage device. If eCS doesn't read it properly then it's
eCS's fault, and therefore needs to be fixed. Any partitions on the
drive should be fully visible and accessable, just as they are from your
thumb/flash drives.

Cheers
Kev
