[Discussion] VPN - why?

My university now offers a VPN connection, if I want to use it, for off-campus
machines.

Should I be interested? If so, why, or where can I read about why? (I tried
searching VOICE newsletters, but didn't find anything relevant.)

I have OpenVPN 20061217, have read the installation instructions, and they
seem straightforward and relatively easy to follow. Any "gotchas" I should
know about?  

The only thing that concerns me is having to run MPTS, which used to UC my
entire config.sys and create a LARGE pain in the posterior. Was that bug ever
fixed? I am running eCS 1.24 here.
