Tom & Carl,

Have you checked your Time Zone setting?

Local System > System Setup > Clock > Location > Time Zone

If this is set to the wrong Time Zone, Thunderbird will adjust the time 
you see based on what TZ it THINKS you are in. Compare the displayed 
time on an e-mail with that in the message source (Ctrl-U).
