I use a SONY DAT drive (SDT-7000) capable of storing 4G uncompressed and double otherwise with BA2K.    
It is suprising quick 100MB/min and fit in a 1/2 Ht Bay.  There are newer, bigger, and better ones   
(see link).

| 2. Tape - the traditional backup still has a lot of value. Van tells me  
| that good tape drives, often with useable tapes, are available on ebay  
| for 5% of original cost, sometimes less. A good tape in a (non-cheap  
| 2000 degree F, 2 hours)) fireproof safe will survive even a very hot fire. 
 
 
I bought mine off of ebay too!  I have restored lost files using old tapes that had been stored well   
over a year. 
 
I like the tape method, it seems more flexible to me.  Inside they look like little VCRs, and the   
tapes are about 2"x3"x3/8", not bad for a mass storage media.
