Thank you all for the help.  

In the  X:\ecs\install\WARPIN directory I found the file named 
DATBAS_G.INI that contained the the 'wrong' OOo install path.  I renamed
it and I was able to install OOo where I pleased.  I think I will rename
the modified DATBAS_G.INI to its original name and call the new file the
installation created DATBAS_G.OOo.  I just hope that I will remember
this switcheroo when OpenOffice 3.0 comes out. :-)
