Brian,

Check Config.sys for "Basedev=usbmsd.adp /Floppies:2 /Removables:N" (N = 
number of usb slots or ports; I use 4)

See "usbmsd.txt" section 2.3

Wait until system is fully booted before plugging in the memory stick.
Wait a moment or two to see if the system is reading the stick and 
brings up the drive letter for it.

If not:
click "Refresh Removable Media"

This works for me.
