[Discussion] Proxy connections

I used privoxy for proxy connections to the internet for a couple of
years. My browser then was NS, and now is a recent Seamonkey or firefox,
connected by cable thru a router. Comcast is the service provider. No
other network.

After reading debates over merits and authenticity of proxy servers, and
in the course of browser changes, I stopped using a proxy server. 

Can someone point to a current or recent article on benefits of
returning to a proxy server, such as privoxy?
