My first recommendation is to not use /y:2 parameter. It's much more
useful to look at the individual reports in case there are clues or you
see something you don't understand. Working blindly on autopilot is
rarely a good idea.

Excellent and needed advice. The decisions I made to destroy lost
objects were different from the default choices checkini would have made
with the /y:2 option. And, yes, I did see references to startup and
Objects with names associated with the miscreant behaviors. I don't know
yet what errors I may have made in response to the many inquiries and
permission requests, but the bogus startup objects and their behavior is
gone.

There are a couple of things you can check.

Checkini maintains a file name startup.cls. You should check it for
unexpected entries.

I did not find this file here, anywhere

With your favorite, INI file editor, take a look at
PM_Workplace:Startup. This lists the known Startup folders. Based on
what you have said so far, you should have only one entry.

There are 18 hexadecimal entries. The data in all of them is "Y". Of
course, I could have responded incorrectly to checkini prompts. (Are "y"
and "n" substitutes for moving the higlight over "Yes" and "No" and
hitting Return in checkini?)

The important thing is that the objects in the Startup folder on my
desktop did all start (USBRT monitor, Lswitch, CADH popup, usbmountd,
tcp/ip startup, and a pair of widgets.

You should also take a look at PM_Workplace:Restart. It should contain
a reference only to the Desktop

No, the XFldDesktop is the first entry. Then, there are a dozen more.

In os2sys.ini, you can check FolderWorkAreadRunningObjects. It should
have only a couple of entries and the names should be recognizable.

I have many entries, mostly evidence from proof-of-concept Rexxmail.

I am assuming that you already have

 SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY
in config.sys.

yes, SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY,REBOOTONLY

What happens if you use the Startup folder bypass (i.e. Ctrl-Shift-F1)
during boot up?

Do you have any sort of scheduler running?

Only the Schedule properties page associated with all program objects
(is that from DragText?) But, nothing is scheduled.

Thank you for your helpful suggestions.
